Have you had hair tinsel put in just to have it all fall out the first time you brush your hair? If the strands are installed properly, they should be hurricane proof. What do I mean by that? As the stylist, if you're tying them in correctly, brushing, shampooing, blowdrying and styling should never be an issue! However, there are some things you as the wearer can do to also help it last as long as possible.
1. Ask your stylist to wash and blowdry your hair before installing fairy hair. Clean hair promotes fairy hair retention. Excess oils in your hair will cause slipping in the hand tied knots.
2. For the longest lasting results, I recommend using the hand tied method. I tie the sparkle strands onto literally only three hairs. It creates an invisible micro knot at the base of your hair root and will eventually shed naturally.
3. One thing I like to do is trim each fairy strand to a different length. This allows for the most natural movement, and prevents the fairy strands from clumping together.
4. When brushing your hair, it's best to start at the bottom and work your way up to the base of your hair.
5. Be VERY careful when brushing your hair. As your hair grows out, you will begin to see growth between your hair roots and the hand tied knot. Be sure not to get your hairbrush bristles between the knot, and the roots of your hair with your hair brush.
6. You can also hold your hand on your scalp to anchor the knots while brushing to avoid accidental snagging when combing through daily knots.
7. Avoid putting conditioner at your roots. This is usually something we always recommend to avoid excess oil in your hair. Oils will cause the fairy hair to slip and fall out.
8. Avoid running your hands through your hair at the scalp. Your fingers may get between your roots and your fairy hair knots.
9. As your hair grows you may see the fairy hair poking out at the bottom of your hair. Feel free to grab some scissors and trim off the ends as your hair grows.
Now you know how to maintain your fairy hair! The key is to be really gentle and avoid pulling and heavily teasing your hair. If you have any more questions please reach out and I'll be happy to chat more!
